Practical steps to improve your school’s security posture

Outlining common cybersecurity gaps in school environments and how you can take meaningful steps to improve your cyber maturity in line with industry frameworks such as ACSC Essential 8 and NIST.

In this session we hear from Afzal Shariff, the Director of ICT Services at A.B. Paterson College on the Gold Coast. Afzal shares his insights on security in education and and elaborates on some methodologies employed to keep his school secure. Topics include mitigating risk, the 4 levels of protection, security well-being measures, the importance of industry experts and audit reports.



Speaker Bio

Afzal Shariff – Director ICT Services, A.B. Paterson College

Afzal is the Director of ICT Services at A.B. Paterson College on the Gold Coast. Afzal has also worked as IT Manager at Coomera Anglican College and Director of IT services at Brisbane Boys College. Prior to that, Afzal has worked for QUT and QLD Police Service. He is responsible for the delivery of A.B. Paterson College’s ICT strategy including ongoing initiatives to strengthen the College’s cybersecurity controls.
