Hello, I’m Mackenzie, a Microsoft Device Specialist at Data#3. I’m in Data#3’s brand new Microsoft showcase space. This interactive space is set up, ready for customers to come in and experience the Microsoft modern meeting experience firsthand. Today, I’m going to review the brand new Surface Pro 7+.
If you’re on the go more than you’re in the office or at home, chances are you use the Surface Pro, or would like to, as it is the most adaptable two-in-one device with a form factor that makes sense for the mobile worker. The new Surface Pro 7+ has finally arrived in an uncanny time, restrictions are easing, and more people are working mobile than ever. So, it’s great to see that Microsoft has made some thoughtful improvements and changes that customers have been asking for.
Surface Pro LTE was first introduced in 2017, and was a hit for organizations who needed that always-on connectivity in a lightweight package that allowed users to work from anywhere with more natural inputs. And whilst the device does not support 5G connectivity, LTE Advanced is still a lot faster than the average broadband connection you get in the office or at home.
LTE also does not require you to be tethered to an access point, so you can have the freedom to take notes, calls, photos and annotate, no matter where you are. The LTE models have the Surface Pro 7+ come equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon X20 LTE Modem, which offers up to 1.2 gigabits per second download and 150 megabits per second upload speeds.
So, without a doubt, LTE Advanced will deliver the bandwidth you need for back-to-back Teams calls, content streaming and keeping your files synced with OneDrive for Business. LTE Advanced can be connected by the embedded eSIM or via the nano-SIM tray under the stand of the device. With Microsoft Endpoint Manager, eSIM-based LTE services can be provisioned and managed centrally through the Cloud by IT, so users can be automatically assigned a data plan before they even receive their device.
IT will also be pleased to know that the hardware information, like the TPID, can be found on the side of the box, and bulk packaging made with 67% post-consumer recycled material is available for large orders to reduce waste. The exterior of the device remains the same so that you can continue to leverage previous investments you’ve made in Surface Type Cover and Surface Pen. The internals of the device is where much has changed.
For a start, the entire motherboard has been flipped over to support the new removable SSD. This is great news for government customers who need to ensure that sensitive information does not leave with the device when it is replaced or disposed of. Surface Pro 7+ has the largest battery today in a Surface Pro, with a 50.4-watt hour capacity for improved all-day battery life with fast charging.
All Surface Pro 7+ devices are equipped with the latest 11th Gen Intel Core Processors that are up to 2.1 times faster than the previous generation and 3.5 times faster than Surface Pro with LTE from 2017. This is also the first Surface device to offer options of up to 32 gigabytes of RAM and one terabyte of SSD space. But in today’s new normal, speeds and feeds are not the only important aspect of the device.
I personally spend lots of time in Microsoft Teams, so it’s great to know that the Surface Pro 7+ comes equipped with an eight megapixel, 1080p world-facing camera, and a five megapixel, 1080p front-facing camera, so you can take detailed photos and look great on your Team’s calls. Dolby Atmos and dual far-field studio microphone compliment the device with more immersive sound and to power accessibility features, like voice to text and subtitles in PowerPoint.
All of these features are important for the modern-day mobile worker to stay connected, secured and collaborative with those in the office, on the road or at home.
