My career story as an Account Executive at Data#3

Fabienne Allen
Account Manager, Data#3

If you’d told me 15 years ago that I’d still be working in tech, I probably would’ve raised an eyebrow. When I first joined Data#3, I was young, ambitious, and eager to prove myself. I didn’t know exactly where my career would lead, but I knew I wanted to carve out a meaningful path.  I never could have imagined how much this company – and the incredible people here – would shape both my career and the person I am today.

Cracking the “big walnut”

Before I joined Data#3, I was working with them as a customer. Back then, we saw the company as “the big walnut” everyone in the industry wanted to crack. I never expected to be on the inside just a few months later.

One of my earliest memories is working with our marketing team on a campaign. The experience was fast-paced and slightly nerve-wracking, but also incredibly exciting. Everyone brought their ideas to the table and supported each other to bring something truly different to life. Somewhere along the way, the team nicknamed me “Fab from the Thunderbirds,” and it stuck throughout the project.

What made that campaign memorable was the way it helped us connect with customers in new, meaningful ways. It opened up conversations, built trust, and showed what was possible when you lead with agility and heart. That experience made it clear I’d found a place where bold ideas are welcomed and where making a genuine impact matters.

Growth through movement

Since that early start, my role has evolved constantly. I’ve worked across numerous territories, often changing every few years. Each transition has brought something new. It’s helped me stay sharp and flexible, always learning and asking better questions. That kind of constant change isn’t always easy, but it has been essential to my growth.

These shifts have taught me what real agility means. They’ve pushed me to step outside my comfort zone, think creatively, and design solutions that are truly aligned to each customer’s goals. I’ve seen some of the accounts I’ve worked with completely transform how they operate and achieve incredible outcomes. Knowing that my managers and peers believed in my ability to lead those projects gave me the confidence to grow into bigger challenges.

This level of trust speaks volumes about Data#3’s culture. There’s an unspoken belief that if you show up with honesty, work with excellence, and embrace learning, you’ll be backed to succeed.

A pause, a pivot, and a powerful return

After ten years with the business, I reached a point where I needed to see what else was out there. I wasn’t unhappy; I just felt ready to stretch myself further. I moved into a new role that offered fresh challenges, focusing on business transformation and automation—particularly during COVID-19, when those services were in high demand.

That experience was valuable, but it also helped me see what I had taken for granted. The hours were long, the pace was intense, and the culture left little room to breathe. I realised that without a foundation of respect and support, success didn’t feel as fulfilling.

Eventually, I stepped away and took some time to reset. During that break, an opportunity came up to return to Data#3. The team reached out, and what struck me most was that it wasn’t just about filling a role. It was a genuine conversation, grounded in mutual respect—not just about what would work for the business, but also what would work for me. That level of honesty and care reminded me exactly why I wanted to come back.

A culture that lives its values

The culture at Data#3 isn’t something you just see on posters or hear in onboarding sessions. It’s lived, every day. Our values that make up HEART: Honesty, Excellence, Agility, Respect, and Teamwork, are part of how we show up for each other.

I’ve had leaders who trusted me to lead but were always there when it counted. I’ve had teammates who stepped in without being asked, and others I’ve been proud to mentor and support in return. That sense of shared purpose creates an environment where people genuinely want to do their best.

What keeps me inspired is knowing that the work we do has real impact. Whether it’s supporting a hospital system or improving access to tech in schools, the outcomes matter. I remember my daughter coming home, excited because her school had Minecraft installed on their laptops. She had no idea I was involved in the licensing negotiation. Moments like that stay with you.

The work isn’t just about delivering solutions. It’s about solving problems, building trust, and creating value that genuinely improves the communities in which we live and work. That’s what makes it meaningful.

Looking ahead with HEART

Each year, our goals grow. It feels like climbing a mountain that gets a little taller, but I never feel like I’m climbing it alone. When we face setbacks, we regroup, rework the plan, and go again. That resilience, combined with the backing of an aligned team, makes the challenge worth it.

Looking forward, I’m especially excited about the future of AI and how we can continue to innovate through software and services. I’m not chasing a title. I’m focused on driving impact, on working with customers, shaping new solutions, and continuing to grow alongside a company that aligns with my values.

If you’re considering a career here, know this: it’s a place where you can grow, where you’ll be supported, and where you’ll be encouraged to bring your whole self to work. Whether you start in one role or shift across different parts of the business, there’s opportunity if you’re willing to put in the effort.

What makes Data#3 stand out is that our HEART values aren’t just words. They’re embedded in the way we work, the way we lead, and the way we support each other. That’s the reason I came back—and the reason I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.
