The Power of Digital Inking in the Classroom

90% of teachers believe digital inking improves the quality of their curriculum. This IDC study of 685 teachers exposes the power of digital inking (the use of a stylus such as Microsoft Surface Pen) in the classroom.

With an ever increasing range of classroom device options, school leaders and district decision makers should consider devices that will most directly support authentic, and efficient student-teacher engagement and reduce the time teachers spend on nonteaching related activities. See the transformation other school’s are achieving with this eBook.

“Teachers without Surface and Digital Ink don’t even consider working the way we do, because we do things that are otherwise impossible… this has probably been the most significant change in our classroom.” – Director of Technology, K-12

The Good News
98% of classrooms frequently use computers, laptops or tablets.

The Bad News
More than half of all teachers are tethered to a desktop computer, another 30% to a traditional notebook, making interaction with their instructional material while standing or walking around awkward.

Changing for the Better
Modern classrooms are starting to look different – about 10% use a tablet with touch screen, which makes simultaneous interaction between teachers, students and the material more seamless and authentic.

The benefits experienced by educators are endless, Microsoft Surface with digital inking is proven to:

  • save teachers time
  • increase student engagement with learning material
  • improve the quality of their curriculum and delivery of class
  • create more personalised learning environments
  • enable authentic and timely student feedback
  • improve class management
  • reduce technology friction

“Consider white boards: I erase and redo every period, six times a day. Now, I just complete a template on OneNote, and fill it in.” –  High School Science Teacher

“The Surface with Digital Ink gives me the ability to be anywhere and everywhere in class, at once. I’m not tied to the front of the room.” – Teacher, Grade K-8
