Project Management Methodology
Data#3′s Project Methodology pred(ICT)or uses a conservative phased approach in which a number of quality checkpoints and milestones are achieved throughout the project lifecycle. Data#3 pred(ICT)or is primarily based on PMBOK, but is also PRINCE2 compliant.
Pred(ICT)or is applied in our IT Service Management (ITSM) engagements, which includes services that adhere to ITIL and MOF. To ensure our customers are provided with uncompromised professional services when using pred(ICT)or, Data#3′s Project Managers and Business Analysts are certified in frameworks such as PMBOK, PRINCE2 and ITIL V2 and V3.
Data#3 pred(ICT)or is a project-hardened, independently audited and industry proven methodology that has been used to deliver a number of significant infrastructure projects for large multinational clients throughout Australia. Data#3′s technical delivery teams have been trained in and have utilised the pred(ICT)or project management methodology, this ensures consistency across all delivery teams nationally. This has benefited our customers by ensuring our Project Managers and delivery engineers provide a common structured approach which is both transparent and consistent.
Data#3 has implemented fully integrated infrastructure solutions using all major platforms for many system environments Australia wide. The ability of Data#3 to provide best-practice expertise across the spectrum of your platforms provides a true single point of contact and ownership for your organisation in selecting a credible, vendor supported partner who truly provides on-going support and professional service. Data#3′s proven and documented approach to project implementation is illustrated in the diagram below which maps business and project process throughout the project lifecycle.
Plan Phase – the Plan phase is divided into two distinct project phases:
Plan – Initiate – The Initiate phase is focused on taking the ‘proposal/RFO’ information documented in ‘Position’ and revalidating into version 0.1 of the Project Management Plan (PMP) documentation set (a collection of documents used to manage the definition and delivery of the project). This documentation is reviewed with the client as the phase completion milestone.
Plan – Discovery – The Discovery phase is used to qualify project information and assumptions that may impact design and deployment. Once complete all project related documentation created in the Initiate phase (v 0.1) is released to the client as version 1.0 (project schedule(s) and Project Management Plan set). Client signoff of the Project Management Plan set v1.0 is the phase completion milestone.
Design Phase – the Design phase is divided into two distinct phases:
Design – Design - The Design phase is the first project phase governed by version 1.0 of the Project Management Plan. At this point work commences on the technical detailed design, training requirements and a ‘closed pilot’ deployment plan. Ongoing project management ensures the schedule is maintained and key elements such as Issues Management, Communications, Scope and Status reporting are managed as defined in the Project Management Plan. Client signoff of the detailed design documents (v0.1) is the phase completion milestone.
Design – Closed Pilot - The Closed Pilot phase is focused on a ‘proof of concept’, this is a ‘controlled’ non production deployment of the Design – Design phase outputs and consists primarily of environment preparation, implementation, user acceptance testing, review and documentation updates. During this phase all defined Project Management activities are maintained. An ‘Open Pilot’ deployment plan is created and the Training program is released. Client signoff of the updated detailed design documents (v0.2) is the phase completion milestone.
Deploy Phase – the Deploy phase is divided into two distinct phases:
Deploy – Open Pilot - The Open Pilot phase is a controlled deployment of the detailed design documents (v0.2) into target sites within the production environment. During this phase all defined Project Management activities are maintained, a ‘Production deployment’ plan is created and the Training program is delivered to all ‘Open Pilot’ staff. Client signoff of the updated detailed design documents (v1.0) is the phase completion milestone.
Deploy – Deploy – The Deploy phase is the implementation into the production environment of version 1.0 of the design documents. The training program version 1.0 is delivered to all staff during the production deployment rollout. During this phase all defined Project management activities are maintained, and Issue management, progress reports and team meetings gain additional focus due to the number of staff / cost related to this project phase. Accurate execution of the communications plan is critical during this phase due the number of parties/resources typically involved and task dependencies. Advance planning and use of client based Change management systems, for business integration, is critical to the success of this project phase. Client signoff of the Deployment report (v1.0) is the phase completion milestone.
Operate Phase – The Operate phase is primarily focused on support of the newly deployed environment and Finalisation of the project, the balance of these two activities is dependent on client requirements, the deployment process and duration of the ‘deploy’ project phase. Client signoff of the Finalisation report (v1.0) is the phase completion milestone.
